All About Me

Starting a new school year or transitioning into a new class can bring a mix of excitement and nerves. One way to make this transition easier is by creating an All About Me page to share with school staff.

This simple one-page document helps teachers and other staff quickly understand what matters most: your child’s strengths, interests, communication style, and how to support them best.

What is an ‘All About Mepage?

An All About Me page is a short, personalised profile you create to introduce your child to the team at school. It’s not about focusing on diagnoses—it’s about highlighting who your child is, what they love, and how they learn best.

It’s also a chance to share what doesn’t work for your child, and any important strategies or supports they need during the school day.

Why use an ‘All About Me’ page at school?

An All About Me page can:

  • Help new teachers and support staff get to know your child quickly
  • Create a smoother transition to a new class or school
  • Encourage teachers to see your child through a strengths-based lens
  • Support consistency across relief teachers, SLSOs (School Learning Support Officers), or other staff
  • Help with goal setting, planning classroom adjustments, and promoting social inclusion

Who should you share it with?

You can share your child’s All About Me page with:

  • Classroom teacher
  • Learning and Support Teacher (LaST)
  • SLSO (if your child has one)
  • School counsellor or psychologist
  • Principal, Assistant or Deputy Principal or school leadership
  • Relief teachers and casual staff
  • After-school care or extracurricular staff (where relevant)

You can also share it when developing your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

What to include in your child’s page

The All About Me page is usually written from your child’s perspective— and you can ask for their input on what they’d like to include. This allows school staff to get a sense of your child’s personality, how they see themselves, and what matters most to them.

Each page will look different, but here are some ideas you can include:

Start with their strengths

  • My special skills are…”
  • “I’m really proud that I can…”
  • “Things I love doing are…”

How they learn and communicate

  • “I learn best when…”
  • “I communicate best using…”
  • “My classroom adjustments are…”

What helps and what doesn’t

  • “I feel supported when…”
  • “Things that don’t work for me are…”
  • “Please avoid…”

Goals and interests

  • “This year I hope to…”
  • “Some things I’m passionate about are…”
  • “My goals for the year are…”

Keep the language friendly, positive, and focused on what helps your child succeed. Use headings and bullet points to make it easy to read for busy staff.

How to create an ‘All About Me’ page

Use a template

Belongside Families has created a simple, editable template to get you started. You can update it each year or as your child’s needs change.

Make your own

Use Word, PowerPoint, or Canva to create your page—or even draw one by hand with your child’s help! Some families enjoy adding photos or drawings to personalise it further.

Keeping it up to date

Your child will grow and change, so their All About Me page should grow with them. You might want to update it:

  • At the start of each school year
  • When changing classes, schools, or teachers
  • If there’s a change in support needs or communication style
  • After major developmental milestones

Whether you keep it as a one-pager or expand to include more detail, the most important thing is that it reflects your child’s current needs and personality.
